Mario vs. Sonic. Link vs. Zelda. Solid Snake vs. Kirby. Only in Super Smash Bros. Brawl are these match ups a reality.
Since 1999’s Super Smash Bros. Nintendo fans have been able to pit some of there favorite mascots against one another. As the third installment in the series, Brawl only betters its action packed predecessors. With better graphics, more levels, a custom level maker, and more characters this game truly lives up to the hype as a true sequel.
All 26 characters from the original games are back with the addition of 11 new characters including Metal Gear Solid’s Snake and Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog. For the most part each character has unique moves and/or attributes. Add that to the usable items and it’s the ultimate battle experience.
My personal favorite thing about this game, other than the ability to play as Sonic, is that there are four different controllers you can use. You can also completely customize each of those controllers to maximize your smashing ability.
On the whole I am pretty satisfied with this game. To be honest it’s pretty much the same game as its predecessors with some new characters and levels. Still the Smash Bros. series remains one of the best out there. In this case too many changes could be a bad thing.
Joey’s FavoritesNumber 1: LinkMy favorite video game character of all time is Link from the Legend of Zelda series. As a Smash Bros. veteran, I’ve played Link as my best character since the first Smash Bros. game on N64. I use him only against my toughest opponents as I feel it would be unfair to pull out the big guns against an easy challenger. His style is uncanny and his moves are effect in any scenario against any adversary. Hands down Link is my number 1.
Number 2: SonicThere were rumors in the Gamecube Smash Bros. that Sonic was an unlockable character. This turned out to be an April fool’s joke that broke my heart. So when I heard that Sonic would be in Brawl I was more than exited. Though he may not be my best character, he is definitely one of my top picks.
Nick’s FavoritesNumber 1: Pit. Pit is one of the next generation of truly aerial characters in the Super Smash Brothers series. With 5 jumps and an incredible Up-B move it is very hard to keep him from coming back on the stage. His aerial attacks also extend to offense, with most of his attacks in the air able to hit multiple times. Finally he is a force to reckon with on the ground, because nearly all of his attacks reflect missile weapons. If Pit sounds like someone you want to use, make sure to stay in the air to swoop down and destroy your opponents.
Number 2: Snake. Snake is a blast to play as, and quite literally. All of his smash attacks use explosives, with his forward smash attack pulling out a rocket launcher and firing it at the ground! If there is an opponent unlucky enough to be there they will likely be dead because that is the most powerful smash attack in the game. Snakes attacks also have a measure of stealth. His Down-A smash attack lays a proximity mine on the ground that will blow up anyone who steps on it. Furtheremore his Down-B special attack lays a remote mine which he can blow up by pressing the button again. In a melee Snake is especially dangerous because noone will be able to keep track of the mines. When playing snake you should stick to the sides and fling explosives into the fray. If anyone comes after you simply hit them with a rocket launcher, or an equally powerful aerial axe kick for a game your friends will never want to repeat.
