In case you haven’t realized registration for the spring semester starts on November 1. While we at the Skyline View know that most people have already figured out the classes they want to take next semester, some may not have known about getting an appointment time for registration partly from not getting a note in the mail saying so.
We at the Skyline View do not understand why some people get their registration dates before others. We understand that EOPS, which helps students who are both economically and educationally disadvantaged, gives priority to the students who are closer to graduating.
What we don’t understand is why some students, who are similar in many respects academically, get their appointment dates before others.
It seems rather careless and spotty. Some current students who live closer to the school get their notices later than someone who lives in San Francisco. Often times students who have 30 units while others may have only three, get their announcements first.
Registering in the first place is a pain. You have to find every class with the right times and when the day comes for you to register some of the classes that you really wnated are full. Thankfully though websmart has a tool for you to see how many are in the class and how many seats are still open.
Usually though the classes that are full are the ones you really wanted. Usually sport and fitness ones get filled quickly, math and english go pretty fast as well same with some of the lab classes.
Wouldn’t it be more fair for Skyline to send their cards to everyone at the same time with the same appointment? The question is this: why is their such a discrepency between students on the dates and times when registering? The most likely answer would be that there are too many students trying to register at the same time, which would cause a system crash.
One or two days between students registering won’t make much difference because not everyone enrolls on the first day of their appointed time. It would be much more fair to everyone involved if the registration process made sure that all current students, except those previously accepted, got their enrollment dates at the same time.
