The semester maybe near its end but Skyline’s basketball season is just getting started, as both the men’s and women’s teams kicked off their seasons early this month, fans brace themselves for a ride of there life.
Surely not to disappoint, the men’s team has thus far provided the intense basketball action we so sorely crave. Beginning the season, they are off to an impressive record of 5-2, and although it’s only pre-season, what we see now only prepares us for what’s left to come.
Coming into the season with high expectations once rosters were finalized practicing day in and day out only became routine. Justin Piergrossi, the team’s head coach admits to having high expectations coming into the ’07- ’08 season but felt that his team could more than meet his goals. Having four returning players from the previous season, the experience each player brings will successfully translate throughout the whole team.
It’s true a, 5-2 record isn’t something to take lightly, but Coach Piergrossi believes that the team still has a long way to go. “I’m happy about the games and especially the ways in which they were won, sometimes having to come back in the second quarter, but I’m not yet satisfied.”
Ultimately the team’s goal is to get better with each passing game and possibly attain a playoff birth, but it is safe to say that they are just taking it one game at a time.
Look for the team as they host the Skyline classic, December 4-7 as they attempt to best the opposition.
