As the Evergreen Valley College coach shouts across the field with frustration in her voice, students and players cheer on as the Skyline women’s soccer team emerge victorious against Evergreen Valley College in an impressive 5-1 win.
Early on in the game, Evergreen Valley Coach Felicia Perez made it clear to her players that Skyline is not a team to be taken lightly.
“Come on!” she shouts in an effort to encourage her team. “Keep the ball moving!”
The first goal of the game was scored by Skyline’s Leigh Ann Mac Mullen about 20 minutes into the game, which led Coach Perez to become even more vocal in hopes that Evergreen Valley steps up with their defense.
Darya Davallou, who scored the second goal for Skyline only minutes after coming into the game, somehow injured her right ankle as she made the goal. She was out for the rest of the game.
Although Davallou’s injury forced her to sit out the rest of the game, her injury wasn’t as serious as the one suffered by Evergreen Valley’s #16 player, who was hit hard in the face as she collided with Skyline’s goalie in the second half of the game. She too sat out for the remainder of the game.
Every player on the field played their best, but it was Skyline’s Mia Borzello who led the team with two goals, both scored in the second half.
“It’s good,” Borzello said when asked how she felt about scoring two goals. “I got good assists, they were important because they were what started the plays,” she continued giving credit to her teammates.
This win, the fourth in a row, is important, as it also serves as motivation to continue strong against future opponents.
“I think we played well,” Borzello said. “We just came off a win on Saturday (Oct. 27 against West Valley College). We have some difficult games coming up, but we’re looking good right now.”
