Imagine this: you’ve been injected with a poison, and have been informed that it will kill you in about an hour. What’s the first thing that you do? Jason Statham provides the perfect answer in “Crank,” the perfect high-octane action movie.Statham plays Chev Chelios (ignore the silliness of his name), a hitman who’s been injected with a Chinese synthetic poison called a “Beijing Cocktail,” which suppresses the adrenal glands, slowly killing our hero. In order to slow the process long enough to find a cure, Chelios must do whatever it takes to keep his adrenaline up, which includes (but is not limited to) blowing up vehicles, snorting cocaine, killing people, and having sex in public. The action in this movie is very enjoyable, and you’ll find yourself smiling as Chelios goes on his Grand Theft Auto-esque rampage throughout the city of Los Angeles. You’ll find that he is very resourceful, as he always finds something nifty to keep his adrenaline up. Not even the police have enough men in the city to stop him, or even enough brainpower, as there are many “shoot him now” moments that go by in the movie.Co-starring in “Crank” is Amy Smart, who plays Chelios’ gorgeous girlfriend. But as gorgeous as she is, she also is a leading contender for “Dumbest Person in the History of Cinema.” It seems that her looks are all she has going for her as she follows Chelios through the movie, up to the climax. Speaking of which, the movie’s ending is quite entertaining. You’ll find yourself bouncing in your seat with glee. All in all, “Crank” is quite an entertaining thrill-ride, with very little (and I mean VERY little) pauses. If you’re looking for an enjoyable way to kill an hour and a half, then this should be it. Just make sure that you don’t get any ideas about having sex in public. There may not be any consequences for Chelios, but there’s probably going to be some for you.
