A Skyline student had charges dropped against him for vehicular manslaughter. Brian McCarthy stood accused of cutting off a truck driver with 2 other passengers on August 6th. The incident happened on Brotherhood Way, near Junipero Serra blvd, where McCarthy supposedly cut off the truck driver. This caused the truck to swerve, flip over and crash into a tree. Two of the victims, Bing Song Mo, 49, and Sheung Chow, 66, were killed, and the third was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The third victim died a few days later, according to police officer Maria Oropeza. After the truck crashed, McCarthy left the scene and continued to Golden Gate Park to play in a soccer game he was originally headed to. It was during the game that a police officer arrived and arrested McCarthy on 1 count of non-contact hit and run, and 2 counts of vehicular manslaughter.Calls to the district attorney to find out when and why McCarthy was released were not returned, but according to an article on NBC11.com, the district attorney’s office decided not to pursue charges, claiming there was not enough evidence at the time.McCarthy was also the soccer team’s captain. The soccer team, which included Eder Castro, was shocked to find out about the incident involving McCarthy.”He was the last one I expected to do something like this,” Castro said. “The guy went to Catholic School, and he was very responsible.”After the charges were dropped, Castro, as well as the soccer team as a whole, was relieved about the end results.
