The horror film “Saw” had movie viewers puzzled about how the story would end, and intrigued at the looks and voice of the serial killer, Jigsaw, and his mannequin. Jigsaw, who gets his name from the jigsaw piece carvings found on his victims bodies, masks his voice in tape recordings and through his mannequin on video for his victims. Movie viewers knew that there was going to be a sequel when the serial killer revealed himself to his victim in the last scene, and left his victim chained to a wall in an old bathroom.
Now, Saw’s sequel, Saw II, has come out with the return of the serial killer and his mannequin with all new gory scenes. Similar to Saw, the captives have to play the serial killers game through video or tape recordings in order to survive. Similar to Saw, the captives are held together as seen on TV commercials.
Saw II came out in theaters on Oct. 28. Saw II fits in with the spirit of Halloween because of the scary fictional characters, scary story, and haunted house-like scenery.
The pace of the movie moves fast because it’s action packed with gory scenes, which are hard to watch. The captives are faced with so many ways to die, and that shows how sadistic this serial killer’s mind is.
The story isn’t as puzzling as the original was, but there are parts that become puzzling as the movie goes on. The ending is just as shocking as the original.
The scenery in the place where the captives are held is very dark, and looks like someplace that people will never look for because of its dirty and old features. So the victim’s bodies will never be found.
The dialogue in the movie became funny when Jigsaw replies to the cop, played by Donnie Whalberg, in a wise, but sick old man’s voice.
“After three hours, all of the gases in his body will make him bleed out externally,” Jigsaw said. “Oh yes, there will be blood.”
The character that steals the show is the mannequin, who has circles painted on his cheeks, a big nose, big eyes, black slicked back hair, and a suit. He’s a little guy.
In the movie, the mannequin can become comical. In one scene, the mannequin is riding slowly on a tricycle, and lets out a remote controlled laugh that wind up dolls have.
The mannequin is also very scary. In other scenes the mannequin is seen on a video screen talking as the serial killer’s masked voice. It looks like it’s his voice because it’s a voice that only demonic creatures would have.
Saw II’s serial killer and his mannequin make a story that could only be retold on Halloween because it’s so scary, and they are so unique.
