I am writing in response to your article, “9/11: Nightmare or political gold mine?” The little anti-American rant you went on was not only ignorant but a shameful show of disrespect for those who lost their lives on that disastrous day. If the lost freedoms rant you went on is referring to the Patriot Act and you are not a criminal or a terrorist, you have not lost any freedoms. You then insulted the President and made your anti-war stance known. John Stuart Mill wrote, “War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.”
Terrorism must be defeated if this world is going to live in peace. We have liberated two countries from tyranny and oppression. Over 50 million people are now free because President Bush had the courage and resolve to defeat these despotic regimes. As for your anti-American agenda, what type of government is better than what we have today? Had you lived in Iraq, no more than a year and a half ago, you would have been led to a torture chamber and faced execution for the kind of article you just wrote. The beauty of democracy is voting. You can vote for whom you think is going to lead how you want them to lead. My vote is for President George W. Bush. We are a stronger and safer nation because of his leadership.
