Skyline students have a lot to worry about, especially around this time of the year, like getting the right classes with the cool professors, making sure there are no schedule conflicts at the same time, coming up with enough money to pay for tuition, books, and fees. I have not even mentioned the after school job, the drama we have to deal with, and the hour we lose every day looking for a parking space.
Most of our classes have an emphasis on historic events and theories. Lets face it, many of us are not too in touch with current events. Besides, news stories are often so gloomy: someone passed away or was murdered, this company is suing that company because they are both greedy bastards; your childhood idol is put in jail for child pornography or some other lewd act.
This column is aimed to brings you news stories from around the globe, some will make you laugh, others will make you sigh, all will make you wonder, WHAT THE…!
* Steve Young (no, not the retired quarterback) of Los Angeles decided to sell his family on eBay for $5 million. According to Young, the winner would receive companionship, invitations to family outings and holiday gatherings, as well as tips on writing, gardening and cooking. They were willing to relocate anywhere and even change their surname. However, eBay yanked the auction shortly after declaring it a violation of company policy. For $5 million, I am willing to do all of that and more. I would just consider it a job, a well paying job. [Source: KTVU]
* College student Michel (pronounced like Michelle) of Cerritos, California launched the website call giveboobs.com, pleading visitors to donate to her “breast fund” for an augmentation. As of Jan. 22, she has received an amount of $3067.69 toward her $4500 goal. I wonder if contributors actually “own” a small piece of that breast. If so, does one go about profit sharing?
* Speaking of breasts, fake breasts are apparently the new fashion trend for men. British designer Vivienne Westwood dressed male runway models with tight sweaters and fake breasts, sending them down the catwalk strutting their “stuff” in a Sydney fashion show. Showing once again how far people will go to be cool or trendy. [Source: NEWS.com.au]
* DaimlerChrylser unveiled the Tomahawk concept at the Detroit Auto Show. Tomahawk is basically a V10 Dodge Viper engine mounted on a motorcycle chassis and 4 wheels. It is capable of going from 0 – 60 in 2.5 seconds and theoretically can reach a top speed of 300 mph. Now if I could just persuade the state legislation to up the speed limit and keep I-280 clear, I can get to school in 30 seconds. [Source: MSN]
* Raymond George Morgan of Redfern, Austria has been banned from driving for almost 1000 years after breaking numerous driving violations. Morgan has appeared before a local court for no less than 30 times AFTER he was banned from operating a motor vehicle. Morgan’s ban will last until December 30, 3001. I wonder if this ban carries over to when cars as we know it becomes obsolete and space cars start taking over? [Source: NEWS.com.au]
