Note from your Opinion Editor: The following is a response to an opinion piece I had written in the last issue (Issue 6) called, “Down with Emo.” To keep the integrity of the writer’s words it has not been censored or edited in any way.
first off, i dont usually send letters to the school newspaper, but because im both bored and disturbed by this article im taking time to write this. (dont get excited this is not going to be a regular thing.)
i understand that this is a ..’opinion’ piece.. so you can say whatever you want. but that doesnt really mean anyone will understand, let alone care. im not trying to be a bastard but really. im pretty sure the entire article is 1 very long paragraph..about..who knows.
the whole.. genre subgenre, what is emo..etc.. who really cares. does anyone really spend that much time bothering over a retarded music ‘genre’ (by the way genre is a very annoying word, and you’ve probably beaten the crap out of it by using it so many times in your article..) started by little boys and girls who want to cry about their lack-of-love-life? i mean, the term ’emo’ bothers me as much as the next guy, but really.. why write an article about it. it just seems you have some major beef (no irony intended..) with weezer fans or something. like you were a once strong fan, and were hurt when you were labelled ’emo’ or something, when weezer became the staple for american youth that wanted to cry and wear thick glasses.
im also wondering about..why you didnt fully explain ’emo’ to the uninformed and knowledge hungry students that are skyline. because of course our campus filled with about 90+ percent asians really want to know. yeah, emo..emotional.. but what the hell does that mean to anyone. how does that define anything. just say that its shitty music made by people who like to talk about their hurt ‘feelings’ and cry and get record deals and then get laid by little girls with short hair because of their never-ending suffering. then there are those other nonsensical morons who say ’emo core’ was started by the band fugazi, but really i dont get that at all.
and about the pussy punk bit.. i find it true that emo kids are really just kids that wanted to be ‘punk rock’ 2 years ago until it wasnt cool anymore. its not really punk or anything, so just called it pussy music.
and in response to your 3 parting words of wisdom.
1. pins.. um.. ok?
2. who cares if emo is ‘killed’.. you’re the one making a big stink about it. the emo kids seem to be doing a good job laying dormant and not bothering anyone. if you want to bash someone, seriously.. bash all the girls on campus wearing ties.
3. who cares. maybe someone hates the album pinkerton. i personally like it but really.. who cares.

To respond to this, first off you have written, “who cares,” many times in a very long response. So it must have at least affected you in such a way that you felt the need to express your lack of concern for the matter. Also, I do not believe that you should assume that because I am Asian and a fan of Weezer, all the Asians on campus will like Weezer. If that was the point of your Asian comment, because I actually didn’t understand the point you were trying to make. I am also apologetic your opinion of my opinion was so negative. I was only trying to express a feeling, and it’s obvious that you would have rather that I didn’t. While it may be a rant, it captured a moment of my life in words, and I stand by the opinion piece and its accountability. ~Your Opinion Editor
