Last weekend Beta Theta Omicron chapter of Phi Theta Kappa had participated in Relay For Life of San Bruno at Cappuchino High School. Relay For Life is a community-driven fundraiser of the American Cancer Society. The main goal of Relay For Life is to raise money for cancer research and patients, moreover during the event they spread cancer awareness, remembrance for those who lost their lives to cancer, and celebrate with the survivors of cancer.
This event was a great way for Phi Theta Kappa to spend their last weekend in April with their Skyline classmates and the community of San Bruno. It was wonderful to see Skyline students out of school and contributing to their community. Out of the 27 teams that participated, Skyline had four of their own: Skyline College BOO & Bio Hazard, SACNAS, ASSC and Skyline’s Runners Club.
They all gathered to fight the 24 hour battle against cancer and celebrate another year of birthdays for cancer survivors. There were many great activities such as zumba, yoga, volleyball, the Miss Relay Pageant, and the Luminaria event. Both BOO & Bio hazards and Skyline’s SACNAS team surpassed their fundraising goals, and BOO & Bio hazards achieved the Bronze level by fundraising over $2500 (and currently over $3000).
Some of our team’s top contributors were Ronnette Naungayan and Aruna Singh, who each brought in over $500. The event was filled with joyous and positive energy as everyone strived for the same goal of finding a cure for cancer. Go team!
