The Skyline Trojans Women’s soccer team lost to the CCSF Rams on Oct. 5.
“I told the girl’s after the game, we’re not happy with the loss but we made them (the Rams) earn everything they got today.” said Skyline Coach Kevin Corsiglia. “We never gave up; we made them work for everything and gave them a really good game.”
The first half of the game saw both teams’ defenses working overtime to stop each other’s offense however, neither team’s defense caved in to the pressure. The first half consisted of both teams playing a back and forth game where the ball was being taken down both sides of the field.
The first half of the game ended with both teams at zero and both head coaches taking their teams aside for a strategy meeting.
The second half opened with the Trojans finding themselves on the defense from the Rams offense. The Rams kept driving the ball down the field to Skyline putting the defense under pressure and coming close to scoring a goal. The Rams were able to draw the Skyline goalie, Katie Jaques outside of her six-yard box (the inner box) but thanks to the quick defense they were able to stop City from scoring.
The Rams kept up the attack until there was about 22 minutes were left, in the second half when they finally broke through the Skyline defense and managed to score the first point of the game.
The Trojans spent the rest of the game on the attack but they weren’t able to break through the Rams defense before the clock reached zero.
“City College is one of the finest teams in the state, if not the country, and I was very proud of the way the girl’s battled” said Kevin Corsiglia
Corsiglia had a very good reason to be proud of his team because due to injuries players have been forced to play out of position.
“That’s our number one issue right now, a lot of us are going through a lot of injuries…but they’re fighting through it.” said Daphne Manilla. “In the next couple of week’s we’re hoping to have a full roster.”
“We’re kind of under men right now, we’ve got a lot of injuries, we’ve got players playing out of position…” said Corsiglia. “The one thing I know, no matter, they worked hard to keep a team like that (the City College Rams) scoreless for 70 minutes.”
The Trojans next game will be on Tues. Oct. 9 at Evergreen Valley College in San Jose.
