The View from Here

It’s that time of the semester again; the new staff members are here, so this will be the last View from Here from me.

Like the Olympics opening ceremony, with the runners carrying the torch from one person to another. This is no different, this isn’t a perfect example, but it is what happens during each semester as the new staff are brought in, replacing the interim staff.

So by the time that our next print comes out, the staff should be in place. That said, the new Editor in Chief Aaron Washington will be taking over the role and making sure that the paper runs smoothly. It’s not an easy job and certainly requires management skills to be able to direct the newspaper workflow smoothly each week throughout the semester.

That said, the position of Editor in Chief is not an easy one, as EIC you have to deal with the big picture problems. In other words, the issues that could possibly effect the View as a whole.

On the other hand, the position is one that allows plenty of experience with working, directing, and talking with students and members of the community and the campus. Being Editor in Chief surely has its challenges, but in the end, it’s an experience that shapes character and teaches the skills needed to run a newspaper.

And while the View is only a college newspaper, it is a First Amendment publication, just like any other college newspaper in San Francisco, San Bruno, or elsewhere in the world. Admittedly, the View is in fact a college paper, but that doesn’t stop these students from learning and actively taking part in the process of running a newspaper.

The time on staff is an experience that is useful to the students both in their life on campus and out there in the workforce. So even though a position like Editor in Chief may be difficult, it is an experience that teaches skills and lessons that can be applied elsewhere.

So keep that in mind, when the thought of been Editor in Chief or any other difficult job enters your mind. Remember that there is always something new to learn and improve.

That said, please welcome the new staff for this semester of The Skyline View.
