Jose Luis Sanchez
My name is Jose Luis Sanchez and I would like to have the great privilege of being your student body president and the voice of the Skyline College students. I know that I am the best candidate due to my past and present experience holding leadership positions in a variety of settings.
I was in the military for nine years. Due to my leadership abilities I was able to rise to the rank of sergeant in the Marine Corps. I have been in charge of the handling, maintenance, distribution and operation of over a million dollars worth of military equipment.
Once separated from the military I became active both in the community and at Skyline College. I have mentored at risk middle school students and am currently the chair for the Relay for Life of San Bruno (American Cancer Society). I am president of the Skyline American Medical Student Association (AMSA) club and am an active member of the student body government.
If I were to be elected I would find ways to get students to be active in Skyline College and give then opportunities to have their voices heard. I also want to establish an intercampus shuttle and start an online rideshare networking hub for the SMCCD.
I have been a student at Skyline for three years. I am a business biology major. My goal is to transfer to a four year university and earn a bachelor’s degree. I plan on starting my own business.
Vote Sanchez for President, vote for change, vote for the Veteran Leader.
Mark Lipkin
I am running for the Associated Students of Skyline College President. I am the best candidate because I understand what it means to be President. I will leave my biases and opinions at the door and take into account what’s best for the student body as a whole. I will regularly reach out to the students to hear their needs and concerns. I will put in as much time and effort as needed to make sure the job gets done. In addition, I am an experienced member of the ASSC. For much too long the ASSC has not achieved its fullest potential in helping students. As president I will end this trend. I am the best candidate because I will represent all Skyline students!
The experience which will be most beneficial to me as President is my current role as the ASSC Commissioner of Publicity. I have seen the work of the council this year, and I know what has proven to be successful as well as where the council has failed. I will use this experience to ensure that Skyline students are represented. My experience will aid me in guiding the council without imposing upon other member’s opinions. I have two major goals I’d like to accomplish as the ASSC President: help students achieve their educational goals and build a community of students at Skyline College.
I will address the first goal by addressing the concerns voiced by the students themselves. Textbooks are expensive, the library is not always open when desired, the food options are limited and expensive; the list goes on. I will do all I can to solve issues such as these in order to make the student’s experience both in and out of the classroom easier and more enjoyable.
The second goal I will work towards through a partnership with Skyline clubs as well as a dedication to exciting and inviting events. Clubs are a fundamental part of the Skyline College student body, so aiding the growth, strength, and quantity of clubs at Skyline is a priority. Students should have the opportunity to express themselves and explore personal interests!
I have been at Skyline for a year and am currently interested in Economics, Political Science, and Rhetoric. In my future are UC Berkeley and then law school.
Amany Salah
My name is Amany Salah and the position I am running for is Commissioner of Activities. I think I would be the best candidate for this position because I have had lots of experience and I also care a lot about what other people have to say. I am a very good listener and want to try and get peoples opinions and what they would like to see at Skyline.
I was in leadership in high school and planned many events, some even by myself for the whole school. I planned events like rallies, talent shows, car washes, and much more. I always want people to have fun even if I am not. I would like for people to enjoy going to school and not always feeling forced to go when they wake up.
I would like to see more exciting events in the quad, more people enjoying their breaks between classes, and hosting events for all ages. I enjoy laughing so why not having a comedian come right before finals to get people to laugh and enjoy themselves with friends instead of stressing out about their finals.
I have been at Skyline for two years and my major is undeclared but I am leaning towards Education and wanting to get my Masters. If you would like to be in a fun environment and want to see change at Skyline vote for me!
Kayla Louis
My name is Kayla Louis, and I am running for the position of Associated Students of Skyline College Commissioner of Activities to battle student apathy. Students are not motivated to get informed and involved in campus happenings because they have no emotional investment in Skyline. Students should have a sense of purpose and belonging when on campus. Events should interest everybody, be fun, and have an impact. What we do with our free time matters!
If elected, I will plan events that foster a sense of community, belonging, and pride at Skyline College. I hope to get involved with the clubs on campus, using the uniqueness of each group to design events that will appeal to all types of students. I truly believe that campus events can get wild and fun and still have a purpose and value. It’s time to get loud, active, and proud to be a part of our community college! Skyline College, get ready.
Jesus Julian Rocha-Silva
My names is Jesus Julian Rocha-Silva, and I am running for a senator position. I think I have the perfect elements that make up a good senator. I participate in events, clubs, and I see the struggles students face. I am a senator right now and want to continue in that position. Also, I am president of SAFER (Students Advocating For Educational Rights) which aims to help AB540 students and immigrants transition to college. As member of LASO, the Latino club, I have focused on educating others about Latinos in the USA.
If I get elected, I will continue to pursue the plans I have to make student life more comfortable. I would like to see prices go down in many aspects, such as cafeteria price and quality, cheaper books, and unit prices.
I have been in Skyline College for couple of years. I am majoring in communications. My plan is to obtain A.A. and transfer to a four year college to obtain a minor in history.
