The Skyline View and its contributors took home six awards for excellence in journalism.
The winners were selected
by the Journalism Association
of Community Colleges, which hosted a journalism convention at the Marriott Hotel in Burbank on March 22 through March 25.
The Skyline View itself was awarded general excellence for online journalism, and Editor in Chief Blair Hardee received two honorable mentions for her news and broadcasting writing, as well as a JACC scholarship award for $500. Social Media Editor Terence Chin also received a JACC schol– arship award of $500.
Entertainment Editor Diane Thao received an honorable men- tion for her editorial cartoon. Also, former staff writer Dean Kevin Santos won third place for his pro- file feature in the mail-in category. And last but not least, Faculty Adviser Nancy Kaplan-Biegel won the California Journalism Education Coalition’s Journalism Educator of the Year award.
JACC is a non-profit educational corporation dedicated to community college journalism institutions located in California. Every semester, colleges from outside of the state join this program and participate in the activities.
