Be a dedicated fan, don’t be a hater

I’ll admit that I’m not the biggest sports fan in the world, but I do like my sports. There is one thing that I find annoying, and it’s the fact that people look down on teams that don’t do well without any major knowledge of why these teams do bad during the season.

And the most glaring example of this that pops into my mind when I see comment sections on sports websites and YouTube videos. It reminds me of a quote from “Men in Black.”

“The person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals, and you know it!”

While I don’t fully agree with the quote itself, one can’t help but see the point that it is trying to make. If you don’t it’s simple: take an organized mob and a single individual and try to ask both groups to come up with an argument to a question and I’ll admit that while it may be successful it really all comes down to organization.

If the the mob isn’t organized well, then they will simply come off as a disorganized mass that will either be harmless or worse. How is this related to sports? Simple, the mindless comments that do nothing, but put down another sports team is stupid and shows little consideration for the details.

However, admittedly my overwhelming experience has been with fans who don’t care that their team doesn’t do well in the season and are still willing to support them season after season. Fan’s who are willing to support there team season after season despite there failures, have my support as they clearly do care about their teams.

Not to be mean, but to use our Skyline men’s soccer team, while they haven’t been doing well these last few semesters for one reason or another. Students shouldn’t stop supporting them at their games after all, they are still students just like anyone else in college.

They aren’t perfect and are still learning, just as much as everyone else is in community college, so support them it doesn’t matter whether it’s a four-year or two-year college support them even if they suck because in the end, they are still students.

And if you can’t stop yourself from being a fool, don’t say anything and walk away, there is enough negative elements in sports already we don’t need more, especially considering we have enough sports related issues in mainstream media.

If you do intent to ask something, at the very least make sure that you know what you’re talking about and keep a open mind.
