49ers get first win at Levi’s

The 49ers came back from a shaky first half on Sunday to beat the Philadelphia Eagles 26-21, and achieve their first victory at the brand-new Levi’s stadium. The game featured an unusual first half, to say the least. I mean, Frank Gore caught a 55-yard touchdown pass.

The stellar 49ers’ special teams unit was uncharacteristically bad in the first two quarters. The Eagles scored first when Brad Smith recovered a blocked Andy-Lee punt in the end zone. The special teams unit faltered again in the second quarter, allowing the speedy Darren Sproles to run past everyone on a 82-yard punt return. When you add the 53-yard Malcolm Jenkins interception return for a touchdown, the 49ers were down 21-13 at the half.

The defense was solid throughout the game, not allowing any points whatsoever. safety Antoine Bethea and cornerback Perrish Cox each had an interception. The 49ers were able to get after Eagles quarterback Nick Foles, often with just a four-man rush.

The difference in the second half; the special teams stopped making mistakes. Colin Kaepernick found Stevie Johnson for a 12-yard touchdown pass, capping off an eight-play, 23-yard drive. Gore had over 100 yards rushing for the first time this year and for the first time at Levi’s.

Next week the 49ers go up against former 49er quarterback/ 2005 number one overall draft pick Alex Smith and the 2-2 Kansas City Chiefs.
