Fans stay in your place, stop going on the field

On Tuesday afternoon the Baltimore Orioles beat the New York Yankees in a 14- 5 beat down, yet that wasn’t the story as apair of fans ran onto the field at Yankee Stadium during the game.and were eventually escorted off by security. After the game Baltimore Orioles center fielder thinks fans who run on the field during games should face a harsher punishment. In fact, he wants to inflict some of that punishment himself.

“I think it’s idiotic for people to run on the field. I think the punishment needs to be a lot harsher and they should let us have a shot to kick them with our metal spikes on.” Adam Jones said via Huffingtonpost.

Running on the field is s
tupid, dangerous and obnoxious. Even assuming that Jones’ pointed comments were made in the heat of the moment, or even jokingly, he still has a point. I fully support this.

Fans have a domain and it’s not on the field. The athletes have no way of knowing the intent of any idiot fan who rushes the
field and there have been incidents in the past where fans attacked
on-field personnel. While a thorough thrashing with metal spikes might go beyond the point in our society, his rant is understandable.

It looks like it’s going to take a fan who is not mentally stable, jumping onto the field and hurting a athlete, before something changes. The New York Post reports that fans who interrupt a sporting event in New York face “possible jail time” and a fine up to $25,000. Really?

I can’t believe the fine is so low as it really doesn’t deter people from continuing to do it. No matter if you are in your 20s, or older than that, it’s not cute to run on the field to disrupt play. And any fan who does that deserves to get their butt kicked from from the athlete.
