In today’s age of video games there’s an influx of indie games hitting the market to compete with AAA titles such as “Call of Duty” and “Battlefield.” “Five Nights at Freddy’s” is not a AAA title; it’s a point and click survival horror indie game available on PC and Android devices.

The premise of this game is to play as a night watchmen for a Freddy Fazbears’ pizzeria in which you defend yourself from possessed robotic animals that entertain kids during business hours. But by night they come alive and haunt the place and you just so happen to stick around and watch. You do this by watching them through the facility cameras and operating the two doors and lights next to you. The objective is to survive until the end of your shift at 6 a.m. while the four robotic animals try to get you and stuff you into another mechanical costume resulting in your death.

The only way to survive is to rely on the audio and video of the cameras and monitor the murderous robots, opening and closing the doors and shutting off the lights with limited power. What I mean by limited power is there’s an assigned amount of power to work with for the rest of your shift. So the more you use the doors and lights, the more you drain the power, and when you drain the power down to zero you become defenseless against the horrible robots. Overall my hopes for this game were exceeded, especially for an indie game that’s priced at $5. Which isn’t bad at all and you wouldn’t be at a complete loss if you were to buy it and not enjoy the game.

Another thing to note is that this game achieved its success by hitting the horror theme right on the proverbial head. Also the premise of you only being able to defend yourself by stalling time and barricading yourself in the control room is unique. As far as gameplay, it is straight forward and a very fluid experience. The atmosphere of the game resembles a Chuck E. Cheese, which is quite joyous to see for a survival horror game.

Bottom line, this game is worth the full price and if you want you can wait for a price cut in which it will virtually be a steal. Don’t miss out on a good indie title such as this. It can satisfy your survival horror cravings.
