Enough with the man bun

Trends change on a daily basis. What is in style one minute can be a faux pas the next. It is time for the man bun to pass into the faux pas category.

We’ve all seen them by now. Men walking around with their hair tied up in some sort of bastardization of a top knot, trying their best to look ultra-masculine when they in fact look like pampered prima donnas. This trend needs to go the way of the Dodo bird.

Before the hate mails starts flying in let’s get one thing straight: There is nothing wrong with long hair. The issue we’re addressing right now is the current trend of men getting an undercut, shaving the sides and leaving the top long, and tying the remaining hair into a short pony tail/bun. You do not look like the personification of virile masculine power. You look like pebbles from The Flintstones. Or maybe even “Pepper” from American Horror Story. And the worst place to be rocking this so-called “manly” hair style? The gym.

If you’re at the gym, you’re there to get work done. You’re there to achieve a goal, not to strut around like a peacock with the top of your head looking like a turnip. How manly do you think you look while rocking a bright pink hair tie to keep your bun from falling out and getting hair in your eyes?

Chances are there are men out there who genuinely like this hair style and are not interested in fads and trends, and more power to those men. We’ll find out who you are when the overall trendiness of this hair style finally dies off, because you’ll be the only ones still rocking the bun. But to those men who are growing their hair out literally because this is the current trend, do us all a favor and just shave your heads. You’ll be doing it sooner or later, so you might as well opt for sooner.
