Former executive vice chancellor named

The board of trustees and the chancellor of the San Mateo County Community College District (SMCCCD) appointed Dr. Victoria P. Morrow as Skyline's seventh president on Oct. 18. Morrow is expected to begin her new job on Dec. 1, replacing Shirley Kelly as the school's interim president.

Skyline student fatally shot in San Francisco

On the night of Oct. 11, Skyline College student Angelo "Marcel" Johnson, 19, was tragically murdered at Randolph and Bright streets in San Francisco. Johnson, a graduate of Terra Nova High School, was born on Jan. 25, 1985. He was an only child and leaves behind his family and girlfriend.

Skyline College received a $700,000 award recently from the California Community College Chancellor's Office. The award enhances its bio-manufacturing education and meets a burgeoning need for trained workers over the next two years. The glut of biotechnology jobs stems from an unprecedented number of Food and Drug Administration approvals of products manufactured in the Bay Area.

Flu Vaccine shortage stops skyline students from innoculation

The national flu shot crisis has prompted the Health Center to cancel its popular clinic set for Oct. 18. Last year, the Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice in San Mateo dispensed approximately 100 doses of the influenza vaccine, said Jan Gersonde, head nurse of the Health Center.

Campus security expanding communications

New equipment to have greater range

The security department recently made some upgrades in their equipment that should help students feel safer on campus. Currently, the department is using a walkie-talkie communication system which enables security officers to talk to each other on campus but not off campus.
