Starting in the fall semester of 2009, Skyline will be changing its smoking policy, restricting smokers to designated smoking areas in all of the parking lots. There will be no smoking allowed on campus. "This change will provide a healthful, conducive environment for learning," said Ray Hernandez, president of the academic senate and also the respiratory therapy program director.
So as we all know by now, staring fall of 2008, Skyline College will become a "Smoke Free College." Now I don't know about you, but I think this is a DUMB idea for many reasons. Incoming students who do smoke will not know that Skyline is smoke free, returning students will not have enough time to adapt to this new rule, and the fact that students need to smoke to get stressed off them are all reasons why I feel that this is a dumb reason to have a smoke free campus.
Skyline students acted out several scenes of the play Urinetown, by Greg Kotis and Mark Hollmann, as part of Katherine Harer's Contemporary Literature class. This spring semester has to be one of the best semesters that, not only myself, but many others, have seen at Skyline College with all of the sports teams. Let's just take the time and really think about this. This spring, we have seen every single sport team (Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's Baseball, and Women's Badminton) make it to the playoffs.
